Before you download
You need an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later), macOS 14 or later, and an internet connection for the speech model, about 460 MB. After setup, dictation works offline.
Known AirPods issue: the first recording after connecting can stop with a retry message. Release the key, wait a moment, then dictate again. Interrupted recordings insert nothing. A fix is still in progress.
After you download
- Open the download. Open the DMG and drag PressTalk onto Applications in the installer window. Then open PressTalk from Applications.
- Follow the setup check. Choose your dictation shortcut in setup. If Fn / Globe does nothing, choose Option + Space or F5. Allow Microphone for recording and Accessibility for Fn and pasting into apps. The check shows any additional permission needed for your chosen shortcut.
- Let the speech model finish downloading. It stays on your Mac. Setup time depends on your connection; the first run may take longer than a minute.
- Say something useful. Open a blank note and click where you want the words. Hold your chosen shortcut, say “I’ll send you the draft this afternoon,” and let go. Your words appear there.
If text does not appear, check the permissions in PressTalk’s settings. If it was copied instead, press Cmd-V. The support guide explains the next steps.

Find your fit
PressTalk is new and built by one person. Support is best effort with no guaranteed response time, and the speech model is trained mostly on English and German. If it does not earn its place on your Mac within the three days, do nothing and it stops.
